Along with agglomeration, separation and mixing, comminution is one of the four basic operations in mechanical process engineering. According to our general understanding, comminution usually means the breaking up of a solid structure under the influence of mechanical energy.

Such comminution processes can be differentiated into real comminution, deagglomeration, deaggregation, delamination or defibrillation. Emulsification, however, i.e., the breaking up of liquid droplets or gas bubbles in another liquid, or even processes in which cell disruption is the goal can also be understood as comminution processes.

The properties of materials to be ground are just as varied as the objective of a comminution process as the aim of the comminution process is not always simply to increase the fineness of the material to be ground.

The webinar will explain material properties and the effects of mechanical material stress. Based on the knowledge gained, conditions will be derived that are necessary for the design of an efficient, high-yield comminution process.

Comminution technologies will presented and explained, sometimes with the aid of animations.

Based on the NETZSCH principles for the definition and design of complete process solutions, we show you herein after our key technologies for mixing, emulsifying and wet grinding processes.

In accordance with the assigned process steps pre-mix/pre-dispersion and fine grinding, we will go into detail on the respective key-technologies and show you the benefits of the NETZSCH technology, process design and service scope. In this approx. 20-minute webinar, Michael Rappl will present our stationary intensive mixer “PMD VC” as a proven and highly reliable solution for dispersing batch sizes > 2000 liters combined with borderline product values like high density and rheology issues, especially for medium to high viscosity products with high solid contents.

Working concept of the PMD VC Mixer and why it is much more efficient and has a much lower power consumption compared to traditional high speed mixers.

How the Intelligent ADS control system can ensure a very rapid but controlled powder feed for optimum solids wetting follow by a dispersion and homogenization process ensuring a high quality premix with each and every batch.

A well-proven cleaning system with sequential cleaning process to effectively clean the mixer interior after each batch.

Finally, some process data from various production runs will be shared and discussed with you.

ProPhi is the NETZSCH solution for the fast and efficient coarse and pre-grinding of suspensions in a highflow recirculation process. The initial particle size for some products in applications like agrochemical industry or printing inks contain coarse crystalline particles, or are agglomerated to particle up to the mm range. Most pre-dispersion processes are not able to comminute these particles to the required size, to receive either the final quality or to allow the subsequent fine grinding process step.

ProPhi provides particle size distributions that allow the final fine grinding step using smallest grinding media and thus significantly reducing the total energy requirement for the preparation of such products.
