Hard Metals

Hard metals are used extensively for mounting tools and parts for machining, chipless profiling and abradant attrition. Considered as composite materials, this materials group is characterized by its metallic nature and the particular combination of the properties hardness and toughness. As a general rule, hard metals are made up of 90 - 94% tungsten carbide (reinforcement phase) or other carbides, which are very hard but also very brittle, and 6 - 10% cobalt, nickel or iron, which act as binding agents or so-called durability components. These relatively soft, ductile, low-melting-point binding agents represent the so-called fluid binding phase in which the carbide material particles are wetted during sintering. The binding agent permeates the agglomerated particles, compacting the body through contraction of the hard materials (shrinkage) down to the smallest possible size. The hard metal carbides are surrounded by the binder metal matrix but remain separate heterogeneous metallographic constituents. In recent years hard metals have been greatly enhanced and, through new applications and continuous improvement in quality and production technology, have proven their high level of performance. This of course also increases the demands made on processing and production.

Dry Grinding

Products & Solutions in the field of Dry Grinding
CGS Fluidized Bed Jet Mill

The combination of an air jet mill and a dynamic air classifier represent fine dry grinding in perfection. The highest of final finenesses with an exact maximum particle size limitation become reproducible. The development of the new e-Jet® and s-Jet® grinding methods constantly yields new, interesting areas of application, both economically and technically. Applicable for finenesses from 1 to 70 µm (d97).

Machine sizes available for grinding air volumes from approx. 50 to 12,000 Nm³/h.

ConJet® High-Density Bed Jet Mill

The ConJet® high-density bed jet mill is a spiral jet mill combined with a patented dynamic air classifier. This classifier enables the ConJet® to achieve highest finenesses independent of the product load, and therefore also highest throughput rates. Applicable for finenesses from 2.5 to 70 µm (d97).

Machine sizes available for grinding air volumes from approx. 50 to 2,400 Nm³/h.

CSM Classifier Mill

The dynamic air classifier integrated into the grinding chamber housing of this fine impact mill manufactures fine particle sizes with a defined maximum particle size limitation. Internal classification of the coarse material results in a more stable and energy efficient process than a mill with an external classification circuit. Applicable for finenesses from 10 to 150 µm (d97).

Machine sizes with drive capacities from 1.5 - 250 kW and air volume of approx. 50 - 26,000 Nm³/h.

s-Jet® Steam Jet Mill

The s-Jet® System (patent pending) is a new innovation in a line of consistent developments being made in the area of air jet milling. Final finenesses in the submicron range (example: d50 0.2 µm) can now be achieved with fluidized bed jet mills. As opposed to conventional dry grinding processes with fluidized bed jet mills, the s-Jet® System uses superheated steam as its milling gas.

CGS 10 and CGS 16 Fluidized Bed Jet Mills

The smallest jet mills for virtually contamination-free fine grinding with an integrated classifier wheel – highest finenesses also achievable with the hardest of products.

For finenesses from 2.5 to 70 µm (d97).

Machine sizes with grinding air capacities of approximately 35 to 125 Nm³/h.

LabPilotPlant

Truly a flexible laboratory system – with reproducible results – variable for ultra-fine grinding and classifying – for laboratory operations or the continuous production of small batches!

s-Jet® 25 Laboratory-Scale-Steam Jet Mill

The s-Jet® System (patent pending) is a new innovation in a line of consistent developments being made in the area of air jet milling. Final finenesses in the submicron range (example: d50 0.2 µm) can now be achieved with fluidized bed jet mills. As opposed to conventional dry grinding processes with fluidized bed jet mills, the s-Jet® System uses superheated steam as its milling gas.
